So…

2013 is an unforgettable year for several reasons that I will soon rant about. But this post is going to be about a book. So..

DAY 1:

It took me a while to get used to the writing style of J.D.Salinger while I was reading The Catcher in the Rye. I’ve just read about 90 pages and I don’t know where this is going.

DAY 2:

I’m done. And..

WHAT THE F*** DID I JUST READ??

It’s a really weird book and I won’t be reading it ever again. Ever. I almost went into coma trying to read it.

Books

BOOKS

The Hobbit: Do you like The Lord of The Ring? Yes? Then The Hobbit will NOT let you down 🙂 Everything, the landscape, the myriad people and things, is so vividly described in this book that I dearly hope the movie is as good…  And yes, the plot,  so Tolkien!

End of Month review: Movies

Okay, this post was originally meant for January but I had a lot of work back then and couldn’t post 😦  Since I didn’t watch any movie this month, I’m sure this will make up for it 🙂

AWESOME!!

Sherlock Holmes- A Game of Shadows: This requires a full page review but I’m lazy so here goes the few fine lines.

Fact: The word AMAZING has been specifically invented for this movie.

The ending was pure PERFECTION.

Sherlock (Downey Jr.)  and Watson (Jude Law) are LEGENDARY creatures ( You know that already, don’t ya? 🙂 )

The movie? It was AWEOSME I TELL YA! ^_^

17 Again: I wasn’t expecting much when I sat down to watch this movie. But boy was I in for a surprise! The way Zac Effron handled turning back to 17 was wonderful. It moved me 🙂

The Sword in the Stone: A Disney classic! Don’t miss it guys! 🙂

NICE:

Ice Age – A Mammoth Christmas: Awesome or not, its Ice Age people. Of course you MUST watch.

The Last Airbender:  It was weird. Ang was dramatically emotional and things happened very fast. Way too fast X_X  But the fights using the four elements was worth watching  ^_^ I loved the anime series though and it is indeed very difficult to squeeze one entire season of the anime into a 2 hour movie .

Legally Blonde :  Just put up with all the squealing and it makes a really good watch ^_^

End of month review : Books

AWESOME!!!

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow: Loved it!!  ^_^ the story was short, sweet, funny, eerie and yet put my senses at ease 🙂

A Kingdom of Dreams: Royce WESTMORELAND. (If these two words didn’t kindle a swarm of  warm memories, you probably have not read Whitney, My Love. What are you waiting for? Hurry up and get down to reading it! 🙂 )

OTHERS:

Heart Of Darkness : It was way too heavy a read.. My mind reels from just thinking about it x_x

The Great Gatsby: The vivid descriptions were quite surreal but it was just not my taste..

Nook Simple Touch

Simple Sophistication. That’s how I would describe this lovely baby Von gifted me on my birthday  ^_^

I’m still in the process of discovering all its features so this post will be updated frequently. I’ll keep the review short and crisp 🙂

Charging:

Once you unpack the nook, you have to put it on charge for 3 hours after which it is ready to launch .

Power on:

At the back of the nook there is a button the size of your thumb. That is the Power ON/OFF, Sleep button.  Hold it down for a couple of seconds and your nook powers up.

Unlock:

Drag the arrows at the bottom to unlock.

Registering:

The first thing to do after powering up your nook is to register it at Barnes & Noble through a Wi – Fi connection. I used the one at Von’s place. You just have to provide your name, email etc and register it. Select the appropriate time zone and after successfully registering, your nook is ready to use 🙂

NOTE: Turn off the Wi-fi in the nook after registering. It saves a lot on your battery. Turn on the Wi-fi when you are going to access Barnes & Noble site to purchase books etc.

Memory card (SD card):

You got to insert a memory card in the slot provided on the right side of the nook. Instructions for inserting the card are provided in the Quick start guide. As per the B&N website up to 32 GB cards are supported. I have put a 2GB card.

Comfort:

Its light weight and compact, easy to carry around.

Cover:

Shell out a few dollars and get one of the awesome covers for nook and you can safely snuggle it up in your bag and not worry about any damage 🙂

Quick start guide:

A hard copy of how to handle your nook comes along with the package and it gives out precise guidelines.

Adaptor:

Buy an adaptor along with the nook to charge it directly from the wall socket. Otherwise you will have to make do with the USB cable provided to charge the nook through your PC or Laptop.

Formats/File Types:

Barnes & Noble website says nook can support the following:

  • ePub5, PDF
  • Graphic: JPG, GIF, PNG, BMP

From my experience it does support ePub and PDF formats. I’m yet to test out the other file types.

I’m in book HEAVEN!!! ^_^

Why so serious? :)

Until a child tells you what they are thinking, we can’t even begin to imagine how their mind is working….

Little Jack was doing very badly in math. His parents had tried everything.. .tutors, mentors, flash cards, special learning centers. In short, everything they could think of to help his math. Finally, in a last ditch effort, they took Jack down and enrolled him in the local Catholic school.

After the first day, little Jack came home with a very serious look on his face. He didn’t even kiss his mother hello. Instead, he went straight to his room and started studying..Books and papers were spread out all over the room and little Jack was hard at work. His mother was amazed. She called him down to dinner.

To her shock, the minute he was done, he marched back to his room without a word, and in no time, he was back hitting the books as hard as before. This went on for some time, day after day, while the mother tried to understand what made all the difference.

Finally, little Jack brought home his report Card… He quietly laid it on the table, went up to his room and hit the books. With great trepidation, His Mom looked at it and to her great surprise, Little Jack got an ‘A’ in math.

She could no longer hold her curiosity.. She went to his room and said, ‘Son, what was it? Was it the nuns?’

Little Jack looked at her and shook his head, no..

‘Well, then,’ she replied, Was it the books, the discipline, the structure, the uniforms? WHAT WAS IT?’

Little Jack looked at her and said, ‘Well, on the first day of school when I saw that guy nailed to the plus sign, I knew they weren’t fooling around.’

P.S : Purely intended for fun. You know that too right? 🙂

A Nice Story

A giant ship’s engine failed. The ship owners tried one expert after another, but none of them could figure how to fix the engine. Then they bought in an old man who had been fixing ships since he was young. He carried a large bag of tools with him, and when he arrived, he immediately went to work. He inspected the engine very carefully, top to bottom.

Two of the ship’s owners were there, watching this man, hoping he would know what to do.After looking things over, the old man reached on to his bag and pulled out a small hammer. He gently tapped something.Instantly the engine lurched to life. He carefully put his hammer away. The engine was fixed!

A week later the owners received a bill from the old man for 10,000 dollars.

‘What?’ the owners exclaimed. ‘He hardly did anything!’

So they wrote the old man a note saying, “Please send us an itemized bill”.

The man sent a bill that read:

Tapping with a hammer -> $ 2.00

Knowing where to tap -> $ 9,998.00

Effort is important, but knowing where to make an effort makes all the difference.
